THE GOVERNMENT SAYS THAT IT WILL NOT DELAY THE AGE OF RETIREMENT BEYOND 67

The Economy Minister, Luis de Guindos, confirmed last Saturday that the government will not delay the retirement age beyond 67. The minister also confirmed that the Governor of the Bank of Spain, Luis Maria Linde, did not say that it should be delayed, but that a system can be created so that whoever wants to continue working after that age can do so.

Linde also said that the delay in the retirement age could guarantee the sustainability of the public pension system. In other countries, this measure has already been adopted and the retirement age is related to the life expectancy of the population.

Guindos concluded that delaying the age of retirement cannot be considered in Spain until the crisis is over and until there are 1.5 million more people working.

THIS IS THE AGE OF A SECOND YOUTH

Happiness is one of the main obsessions today. But, happiness is not an easy concept to explain. According to the psychologist Ana Villarrubia there are as many definitions of happiness. But to find it requires patience. Psychologists and researchers say that happiness is U-shaped: it is high during youth and decreases in adulthood until reaching 40. It then grows again during the 50ss and its duration depends on the person.

A study by Andrew Oswald found that as we age we are happier. According to psychologist Ana Villarrubia, happiness is related to the levels of experience and maturity of each person and also the emotions experienced.

The 40s is the most complicated decade, because we are all the time focused on working to achieve a better future. This obsession is the so-called “crisis of the forties”, during which people begin to lose their youthfulness and women start to experience the symptoms of menopause. In addition, at this age there are cases of depression and anxiety, something that does not happen when you are 20 or 30 years old.

From the 50s the process of late happiness will begin. During these years, we become reassured and the level of anxiety falls. We learn what is important and how to manage problems.

AN HIV THERAPEUTIC VACCINE TEST WILL CONTROL THE VIRUS FOR LONG PERIODS

For the first time, a clinical trial of an HIV vaccine has resulted in five people controlling the virus without taking further treatment. The vaccine, which has been developed at the University of Oxford, destroys the affected cells and contains a drug called Romidepsin that wakes up the virus so the immune system can neutralize it.

These five people have managed to control the virus for 27 weeks. The researchers do not know when they will be able to finish the follow-up with the patients, since the virus could return. The research continues and, if all phases are successful, in ten or fifteen years a vaccine for HIV may exist.
